Construction of European-standard track to begin at Ukrainian-Polish border this year - Ukrainian deputy PM for restoration
MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The construction of the Mostyska-Sknyliv railroad section between the Polish border and Lvov will begin this year, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration Alexander Kubrakov said.
"Construction of the first big section with the European-standard track, Mostyska-Sknyliv. We will connect our railroad to the European network. This is the first project, and we will start the construction as early as this year, together with European partners and donors," Ukrainian media quoted Kubrakov as saying at the Ukraine. Year 2024 forum on Sunday.
It is also planned to open several motor checkpoints at the borders with Moldova, Romania, Hungary and Poland this year, Kubrakov said, adding that the Restoration Agency would continue to renovate 23 checkpoints.
As reported, construction of the narrow European track (1,435 millimeters) was due to begin on the Mostyska-Sknyliv line back in 2020, when the government added the project to the list of investment priorities for the period until 2023. The project costs $20.8 million.
Ukrainian Railways planned to finalize the work on the track construction project by the end of 2023.
