Ukraine ranks 28th among world's top wine producers - analysts
MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - Ukraine ranks 28th on the 2022 list of the world's largest wine producers, Ukrainian media said, citing the CASE Ukraine center for socio-economic research.
"We produced 660,000 hectoliters, or 0.26% of the global wine market, as of 2022," experts said.
The list of the world's major wine producers is topped by Italy with 49.843 million hectoliters, or 19.3% of total wine production, France is in second place with 45.59 million hectoliters (17.65%), and Spain is third with 35.7 million hectoliters (13.83%), the center said.
Among the reasons behind these small amounts of wine production in Ukraine, analysts cited the destruction of vineyards during the anti-alcohol campaign back in Soviet times, the absence of a land market in Ukraine until 2020 and restrictions on the acquisition of land plots by legal entities and foreign investors.
