EBRD gives 25-mln-euro loan to Dnepropetrovsk
MOSCOW. July 5 (Interfax) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will give a 25-million-euro loan to Dnepropetrovsk for the stable provision of critical public utility services, Ukrainian media said with the reference to the EBRD press service.
Dnepropetrovsk, the fourth largest city in Ukraine and a major economic center of southeastern Ukraine, has taken in a significant number of refugees since the beginning of the crisis, thus exacerbating the problem of public utilities, the press service said.
Dnepropetrovsk is the second city in Ukraine to receive liquidity support from the EBRD. The bank granted a 25-million-euro loan to Lvov for the same purposes at the end of last year.
The EBRD is the biggest institutional investor in Ukraine. Last year alone, it provided 1.7 billion euros and mobilized another 200 million euros worth of support from partner financial institutions. The bank pledged 3-billion-euro funding of Ukraine by the end of 2023.
The main task of the EBRD is to support the real economic sector of Ukraine: energy and food security, trade, critical infrastructure and the private sector.
Dnepropetrovsk joined the EBRD flagship program of sustainable development of cities, EBRD Green Cities, as the 49th participant in June 2021.
