Azerbaijan, TotalEnergies sign memorandum on 500MW renewable energy projects in Nakhchivan, East Zangezur

BAKU. June 5 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's energy ministry on Saturday signed memoranda of understanding to implement renewable energy projects in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the East Zangezur Economic Region.

In particular, with France's TotalEnergies the ministry signed a memorandum on cooperation in evaluating the construction of a 250-megawatt solar power plant and a 250-megawatt wind power plant. The memorandum also stipulates the sides cooperating in energy efficiency evaluation of the projects. These projects are due to be implemented in Nakhchivan and East Zangezur.

Further, a memorandum signed with Nobel Energy Management involves cooperation in building a 400-megawatt solar power plant in Nakhchivan. The project also involves exporting some of the electricity generated by the plant to Turkey.

Both documents were signed during a special session at the Baku Energy Week.

Azerbaijan's authorities in Nakhchivan plan to implement projects to build wind and solar power plants with a 1,500 megawatt capacity, of which at least 1,000 megawatt will be exported to Turkey and Europe, the ministry said.
