Ukraine initiating resumption of veterinary control of dairy products from Poland
MOSCOW. June 2 (Interfax) - The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has prompted the Ukrainian government to resume veterinary control of milk and dairy products from Poland.
The specialized agencies are elaborating on a relevant decree, Ukrainian media outlets said, citing the ministry as saying on Friday.
In accordance with the decree, the following checks are envisaged: verification of documents, compliance, animal health and welfare checks, physical inspections, and laboratory tests and trials.
The aforementioned checks will be conducted at the inspection facilities and designated checkpoints on the state border of Ukraine - Krakovets, Yagodin, Rava-Russkaya, Smolnitsa, and Shegini.
As reported, since April, Poland has repeatedly blocked export of Ukrainian agricultural goods, and lengthy veterinarian inspections cause special complaints.
According to the Ukrainian Union of Dairy Enterprises, in the first quarter of 2023, Poland supplied dairy products to Ukraine worth $25 million every month, whereas Ukraine - $5 million.
"If Ukraine introduces reciprocal measures, Polish producers will lose these amounts and we will simply pick them up without having any problems with selling dairy products within the country," Arsen Didur, executive director of the Ukrainian Union of Dairy Enterprises, said in an interview with Ukrainian media outlets in early May.
