Ukraine may become source of new global development - Zelensky

MOSCOW. Nov 17 (Interfax) - Ukraine may become a source of new global development, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said.

"We have huge potential in the low-carbon energy sector. Ukraine is capable of becoming a key partner of the European Union for purposes of de-carbonization," Ukrainian media quoted Zelensky as saying while speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum via videoconference on Thursday.

Ukraine "will become one of the key suppliers of green hydrogen and green electricity to the EU. Ukraine's climatic conditions, free areas, solar energy, and wind energy enable it to produce green electricity at a very competitive cost," Zelensky said.

"In addition, Ukraine can produce dozens of millions of tonnes of green and cheap ammonia. Moreover, very strong positions in the bioenergy sector. Plus a strong nuclear power industry and energy infrastructure unified with the European Union's power grid," he said.

"Modern economy needs lithium, graphite, and other rare-earth metals," and "we have the largest reserves of some of these resources in Europe," Zelensky said.

"This provides colossal opportunities. Plus manufacturing and transport capabilities, plus our machine-building potential, our labor culture, and access to leading global markets - it is a foundation for economic growth, which everyone needs so much," he said.
