One Works global design firm, British architect Foster involved in drawing up promising masterplan for Ukraine's Nikolayev

MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax) - The One Works global design and consultancy firm and renowned British architect Norman Foster are involved in the creation of a promising masterplan for Nikolayev, the Ukrainian media reported citing the press service for the Nikolayev City Council.

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) invited international architects in early fall to help Nikolayev develop a perspective masterplan. Italy's One Works global design and architectural firm is coordinating the work.

According to the website of the design firm, One Works has set up a special team on a pro bono basis.

"We want to contribute with the best of our skills and knowledge in the definition of a masterplan that looks at an architectural and infrastructural reconstruction of the city on which to base an equally solid social reconstruction," One Works Founder and Managing Partner Giulio De Carli is quoted by Ukrainian media as saying.

One Works is cooperating closely with the UNECE task force, the Norman Foster Foundation and the Nikolayev authorities on five thematic macro-areas that form the basis for the analysis and identification of strategies that will guide the drafting of the new urban masterplan: transport and connecting infrastructures, green and water system, social housing, industrial/productive development.

The Department of Urban Planning of the Politecnico di Milano, the experts of digital urban transformation of Municipia, ExSUF - UN Geneva Charter Center of Excellence, Liuc - Libera Universita di Castellanza were also involved in the development of the perspective masterplan of Nikolayev.

As previously reported, British experts led by Norman Foster were involved in drawing up a masterplan for the reconstruction of Kharkov as part of UNECE's assistance. In order to ensure the openness and transparency of representatives concerned of the communities, the UNECE is planning to launch a common website for Kharkov and Nikolayev, which will inform the residents of the city of all stages of the development as much as possible.
