Zelensky, Shmyhal meet with Spanish FM in Kiev

MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has met with Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares Bueno in Kiev.

The Ukrainian media has quoted the presidential administration as saying on a social network that the sides discussed topical aspects of Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic integration among other issues.

In the words of Zelensky, Ukraine is counting on practical steps towards EU membership during the Spanish presidency in the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2023.

They also highlighted reconstruction of the Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said after a meeting with the Spanish minister they had planned further steps on the path towards Ukraine's entry into the European Union.

"We are expecting to fulfill every recommendation of the European Commission and launch the negotiating process. We are also expecting Spain to assist in this respect," the Ukrainian media quoted Shmyhal's statement published by the government press service.

The Spanish foreign minister said that Madrid had provided Ukraine with five generator sets and 30 ambulance vehicles.

"This equipment will help continue power supply to hospitals and other healthcare establishments," Albares said at a press conference in Kiev on Wednesday.

In his words, Spain will provide Ukraine with another 14 generators purchased with the funds of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
