Kazakhstan's financial regulator to assist holders of sanctioned Russian securities in finding way out of current situation
ASTANA. Sept 29 (Interfax) - Kazakh investors holding Russian securities that have come under sanctions will be offered options on finding a way out of the situation, Mariya Khadzhiyeva, deputy chairperson of the Kazakh Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market, said at a briefing on Thursday.
"Unfortunately, today's sanctions do not allow the holders of some financial instruments that were purchased earlier to dispose of them. Such instruments include securities of Russia-based issuers or those securities that were registered in the Russian Federation according to international standards," Khadzhiyeva said at the briefing.
"Work on resolving these problems is currently underway," Khadzhiyeva said.
"Unfortunately, there is no simple decision in this situation. However, we are actively working on the matter with the National Settlement Depository, Euroclear, Clearstream, and the Central Bank of Russia (CBR). We hope that in the very near future, we are able to offer the market specific options for resolving the situation," Khadzhiyeva added.
