Security tightened on Belarusian-Ukrainian border with army's help - Belarusian State Border Committee
MINSK. March 2 (Interfax) - Border services and army units have been assigned as reinforcements on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border to prevent saboteurs from crossing into Belarus, the Belarusian State Border Committee said on Wednesday.
"Consistent with the orders given by the president of Belarus amid the escalating military and political situation in the region, border protection has been enhanced in the western and southern sectors," the Committee said.
"A package of measures has been implemented under the circumstances in order to prevent possible provocations and infiltration of sabotage and reconnaissance groups into Belarusian territory. Reserves of border groups and units, as well as units of the Defense Ministry are serving as reinforcements on the border with Ukraine," the Committee said.
Personnel from territorial border guard departments are staying at their bases, it said.
"Checkpoints, including those on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, are functioning normally on the side of Belarus. No additional restrictions have been imposed on the traffic of pedestrians and vehicles," the Committee said.
"The situation remains controllable on the state border of the Republic of Belarus," it said.
