Rada deputy Medvedchuk escapes house arrest - advisor to Ukrainian interior minister
KYIV. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada member Viktor Medvedchuk of the Opposition Platform - For Life faction has escaped house arrest, Anton Herashchenko, an advisor to the Ukrainian interior minister, said.
"I have checked and I confirm this," Herashchenko wrote on his Telegram channel on Sunday.
In May 2021, Medvedchuk was placed under house arrest; the court of appeals upheld this restrictive measure later. He is charged, in particular, with high treason and involvement in illegal shipments of coal from Donbas at the end of 2014 and in early 2015.
