Difficult to say when inflationary pressure could run its course, though govt working on it vigorously - Kremlin spokesman Peskov
MOSCOW. Feb 8 (Interfax) - The Russian government continues to take vigorous measures regarding the persistence of inflationary pressure, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.
"Naturally, this is a negative phenomenon, and inflationary pressure continues. First, this is because of global trends that of course project onto our situation as well. Therefore, yes, inflationary pressure persists, and it remains difficult to say when the pressure could run its course. Therefore, measures are being taken vigorously," Peskov said.
"You may know that it has been possible to dampen inflationary pressure for the most vulnerable citizens, such as pensioners, military pensioners, and those who receive benefits, and there has been a rise in real payments that exceed real inflation instead of planned inflation," Peskov added.
"The government also continues to work further and very vigorously," Peskov concluded.
The Vedomosti publication reported on Tuesday that Russia's Economic Development Ministry had raised its forecast for annual inflation from 4% to 5.9% in 2022.
