No regions in Russia remain unaffected by new coronavirus as 1st case recorded in Republic of Altai

GORNO-ALTAISK. April 16 (Interfax) - The first case of the new coronavirus infection has been recorded in Russia's internal Republic of Altai, the local administration's press center told Interfax on Thursday.

"It has been detected in a female resident of the Ongudai district, who had earlier been visited by her relatives living in a neighboring region," the press center said, adding that the initial testing confirmed the presence of the new coronavirus infection in the woman.

It had been reported earlier that the Republic of Altai remained the last region in Russia where not a single coronavirus case had been recorded until recently. The local office of the national public health and consumer protection watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said earlier the detection of a coronavirus infection in the region was inevitable sooner or later, considering that its administrative boundaries remained open.
