Russia, China able to reshape global geo-economic map, make maritime trade more accessible, secure - Russian Maritime Board chairman

MOSCOW. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Russia and China are able to change the global geo-economic map and make maritime trade cheaper, more accessible and secure against military escalation, piracy and sanctions, Russian presidential aide and Russian Maritime Board Chairman Nikolai Patrushev said.

"We see particular significance in the joint development of strategic logistical initiatives. China has been implementing the Maritime Silk Road concept for more than a decade already. Russia, for its part, relying on its immense experience of polar navigation and the operation of the Northern Sea Route, has launched the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor project. Pursuing these initiatives, our countries are able to reshape the global geo-economic map, making maritime trade cheaper, more accessible and secure against any risks, including military escalation, piracy and sanctions," Patrushev said at a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing.

Patrushev heads Russia's delegation to maritime cooperation talks underway in China from October 8 to 12. During the visit, he has held talks with the transport minister and the vice minister of industry and information technology of China, as well as with senior officials of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and of the Yangshan Port.
