AzerGold considering participation in development of mineral deposits in Colombia

BAKU. Oct 12 (Interfax) - AzerGold is considering the possibility of participating in the study and development of promising mineral deposits in Colombia, the company said in a statement.

AzerGold Board Chairman Zakir Ibrahimov and Colombian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Nelsy Raquel Munar Jaramillo "discussed prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Colombia in the mining industry, implementation of joint projects, investment partnership, as well as potential participation in the exploration and development of Colombia's promising mineral resources," the company said.

Ibrahimov informed Jaramillo about AzerGold's strategic goals for expanding the geography of its international activities.

Colombia pays special attention to the development of the mining sector and is interested in attracting foreign investment in this area, Jaramillo said. Of the 31 strategic mining sites identified in Colombia, 16 are considered promising for the study and development of gold and copper deposits, she said.

"At the meeting, an agreement was reached to organize a separate session featuring relevant sector experts from both sides to define concrete areas of cooperation. During that upcoming meeting, potential projects regarding the exploration and development of Colombia's mineral resources, alongside other mutually beneficial cooperation opportunities, will be examined," the company said.

The prospects for possible cooperation will be assessed based on the results of the upcoming discussions, AzerGold said.

CJSC AzerGold was established by a decree of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev dated February 11, 2015, and is engaged in the study, research, exploration, development and management of gold-bearing and iron ore deposits.
