Uzbek, Turkmen leaders sign agreement to create High-Level Strategic Partnership Council
TASHKENT. Oct 8 (Interfax) - Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov have signed an agreement to establish a hgh-level strategic partnership council, the Uzbek president's press service said in a statement on Thursday.
"The meeting resulted in the signing of an agreement to create the High-level Strategic Partnership Council that forms a solid institutional basis to further deepen the political dialogue and expand practical cooperation in prioritized areas," the statement said.
The two sides noted with satisfaction the positive dynamic of their trade, economic cooperation. Trade has grown steadily since the beginning of the year and the Shavat - Dashoguz border trade zone is successfully operating.
The leaders noted the importance of adopting a plan of measures to boost trade and an industrial, energy, transport, agricultural and water resources cooperation plan.
Mirziyoyev is in Turkmenistan for a working visit on October 7-9 to attend the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, and a CIS summit.
