Russian deputy PM, Afghan FM discuss prospects for cooperation in energy, trade
MOSCOW. Oct 6 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk and Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi have discussed prospects for interaction in trade, energy, investment cooperation, and strengthening transport connectivity as part of plans for developing the international North-South transport corridor.
"Mutual trade turnover between the countries in seven months of 2026 increased 2.5-fold compared to the same period last year," a statement on the Russian government's website said.
It was noted that, as a result of the meeting, the sides agreed to continue dialogue through the countries' governments in order to implement projects of mutual interest, as well as to intensify ties between the two countries' entrepreneurs.
Muttaqi thanked Russia for supporting the course towards Afghanistan's socio-economic development.
