Pamir Energy complete construction on an inter-regional power-transmission line in Tajikistan
DUSHANBE. Sept 28 (Interfax) - JSC Pamir Energy has completed construction on a high-voltage transmission line corridor in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAR) of Tajikistan with financial support from the European Union, the EU delegation to the country reported.
"The 110/35/10 kV Kozideh substation and the 42.3-km, double-circuit 110 kV Vomar-Voznavd transmission line have been commissioned. This marks the final section of the 110 kV network along the Khorog-Darvaz route, a project on which Pamir Energy has been working for nearly two decades," according to the statement.
Consequently, there is now a continuous 175-km high-voltage corridor stretching from the Sebzor Hydropower Plant to the Vanj District on the Afghan border. There are also now conditions to transmit 110 kV electricity to the Shughnan, Roshtkala, and Murghab districts, which are also located along the border with Afghanistan, according to the statement.
Prior to the commissioning of the new line, a 35 kV transmission line section served the route. According to the company, the launch of the 110 kV line has increased the section's capacity by 1.8 times, reaching 20 GWh per year.
The Kozideh substation enables full utilization of the 110 kV Khorog-Kozideh transmission line, which was constructed with World Bank support in 2025.
According to the EU delegation, implementing the projects improves the reliability of electricity supplies for approximately 64,000 residents in the border areas of the GBAR and expands Tajikistan's capacity for cross-border electricity exports.
Pamir Energy has been operating in the GBAR since 2002 under a concession agreement between the government of Tajikistan and the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development, structured as a public-private partnership involving the International Finance Corporation and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
Pamir Energy generates, transmits, and distributes electricity in the GBAR.
The company said that overall investment since the very start totals around $278 million across more than 35 projects, and current generation capacity totals 72 MW.
Pamir Energy is implementing its key projects in the GBAR with financial support from the European Union. Notably, the 11 MW Sebzor HPP was built and commissioned using a 20 million euro EU grant. The Kozideh substation and the Vomar-Voznavd transmission line were also constructed with EU funding.
Afghanistan is Tajikistan's primary destination for electricity exports, accounting for 70% of all cross-border energy supplies.
