Gazprom notes high demand for Power of Siberia pipeline's gas from China

MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia trunk gas pipeline in H1 2026 exceeded the level of the same period last year, Gazprom said in a report.

"The increase in supplies of pipeline gas by PJSC Gazprom occurred amid a reduction in China's gas imports (predominantly LNG), which shows the high demand for Russian pipeline gas on the Chinese market," the company said.

Supplies of Russian gas to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline began in 2019 as part of a long-term gas purchase and sale agreement between Gazprom and CNPC. Starting in 2020, supplies have exceeded annual contractual obligations each year. In 2025, 38.84 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline, which is 0.84 bcm of gas more than the plan. In 2024, supplies reached 31.12 bcm of gas against an initial plan of 30 bcm, and in 2023 they totaled 22.73 bcm (22 bcm).

After the Power of Siberia reached an export level of 38 bcm per year, the throughput of the trunk line is being increased through the construction of new loop lines. New capacities are being commissioned at the Yakutsk and Irkutsk gas production centers.
