Uzbekistan aims to increase wind power capacity to 12,000 MW by 2030 - Energy Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 23 (Interfax) - The Uzbek authorities plan to create electricity storage systems in all regions of the country, taking into account the specific aspects of energy consumption of large industrial enterprises, Uzbek Energy Minister Sherzod Khodjaev said in an interview with the Uzbekistan 24 television channel.

"Storage systems must appear in all regions of the country, and their parameters and operating modes must be adapted to the needs of large industrial consumers. The development of this infrastructure is also being considered in the context of ensuring energy security," the Energy Ministry quoted Khodjaev as saying.

As part of developing renewable energy, the installed capacity of wind power plants (WPPs) must reach 12,000 MW by 2030, he said. The new projects are expected to be implemented in Karakalpakstan and the Navoi, Bukhara, Jizzakh and Samarkand regions.

It is planned that the capacity of solar power plants will be brought to at least 7,000 MW by the same deadline.

The Energy Ministry has been instructed to accelerate negotiations with investors and take measures on projects whose implementation is behind schedule, Khodjaev said.

The selection of investors will be carried out on the basis of transparent competitive procedures. When forming investment plans, it is proposed that the appeals and proposals of electricity consumers be taken into account.

According to data from the Uzbek Energy Ministry, the installed capacity of the country's power plants amounted to 24,700 MW at the end of 2025. The total capacity of solar and wind power plants exceeded 6,300 MW, and that of hydroelectric power plants was almost 2,500 MW.
