Moldova's GDP growth at 0.6% in H1 2026
CHISINAU. Sept 14 (Interfax) - Moldova's GDP amounted to 165.8 billion lei in current prices in January-June 2026, up 0.6% in real terms compared to the same period last year, the country's National Bureau of Statistics said.
Economic growth accelerated to 0.9% in Q2 from 0.4% in Q1.
Among the main sectors that influenced the dynamics of GDP during H1, growth in the manufacturing industry amounted to 0.5%, in the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning it was 0.3%, in agriculture it stood at 0.3% and in wholesale and retail trade it was 0.2%.
The dynamics of GDP were held back by a decline in the ICT sector amounting to 0.6% and a fall of 0.5% in construction, 0.4% in real estate and 0.2% in education.
As previously reported, in the summer the Moldovan Economy Ministry cut its forecast for economic growth this year to 1.8% from 2.4%.
According to the assessment of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the growth rate of Moldova's GDP this year will slow to 1.5%, while the World Bank expects growth of 1.9% and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) expects 2.8%.
The country's GDP grew 2.4% in 2025 after growing 0.1% in 2024 and 1.2% in 2023 and declining 5.9% in 2022.
