Putin calls for keeping approach aimed at developing Far Eastern, Arctic regions

VLADIVOSTOK. Sept 2 (Interfax) - The state is creating practically a new model of development of the Far East and the Arctic with maximally comfortable conditions for enterprises, as well as legal innovations for the investment climate in the region, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

Putin traditionally held a meeting on the development of the Far Eastern region on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. The Russian government has recently completed work on a new strategy for developing the Far Eastern Federal District in the period until 2036, and a strategy to develop the Arctic zone and the mechanisms for implementing it were discussed in a recent meeting with members of the Russian Security Council.

"We are de facto talking about a new model for developing the Far East and the Arctic, when special and maximally comfortable conditions for enterprises, organizations, and also brave legal innovations become a customary norm, a characteristic feature of the region's business and investment climate," Putin said.

"Such approach, aimed at dynamic development of the Far Eastern and Arctic regions, should definitely be preserved. And everything we agreed on earlier also needs to be strictly fulfilled," Putin said.

The meeting will address not only new ideas, but also earlier tasks, the degree of their achievement or non-achievement, he said.

In the event of their non-achievement, it is necessary to find out the reasons, Putin said. "We will talk about what has been done in full and where extra efforts need to be made," he said.
