Kurultai confirms Bektenov as Kazakh PM

ASTANA. Aug 31 (Interfax) - The Kazakh parliament Kurultai confirmed Olzhas Bektenov, nominated by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, as the Kazakh prime minister at a meeting on Monday.

"One hundred and forty-four are present, everyone has voted, 137 have voted for, and seven have abstained. The resolution is adopted," Kurultai speaker Aibek Dadebai said, as he announced the voting results.

Earlier, Tokayev nominated Bektenov for prime minister at the Kurultai.

"I nominate Bektenov. He is a statesman, a very responsible one," Tokayev said at the Kurultai meeting on Monday.

Bektenov, 45, has been serving as the prime minister since February 2024.
