DP World to start building $288 mln logistics terminal in Uzbek capital Tashkent in Oct - official

TASHKENT. Aug 27 (Interfax) - DP World of the United Arab Emirates will start building a logistics terminal in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent in October 2026, with investments totaling $288 million, Shavkat Umurzakov, the city's mayor, said.

Uzbek media report that the facility will handle up to 120 million tonnes of cargo and 150,000 containers.

Umurzakov said the head of DP World invited Uzbekistan's president to lay the terminal's foundation stone.

He said investment in the city's development has totaled $5.6 billion since the beginning of 2026, and will reach $9 billion by the end of the year. City officials are considering 14 projects, including four industrial and two tourism projects. Once fully operational in approximately three years, they are expected to produce $3 billion of goods and facilitate $1.5 billion of exports.

Umurzakov also spoke about the development of the Yangi Avlod special industrial zone in Tashkent's Yangihayot district, where 22 projects costing a total of $500 million should be launched by the end of 2026.

DP World is one of the world's largest port operators, owned by the UAE government. The group manages over 60 port terminals, industrial parks, logistics centers, and other facilities with a combined throughput capacity of over 90 million TEUs.
