Tokayev, Berdimuhamedow discuss broader trade, transport, energy cooperation

ASTANA. Aug 25 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Turkmen People's Council chairman Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow have spoken by phone to discuss broader bilateral trade, economic, transport logistics and energy cooperation, the president's press service said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Special attention was paid to cooperating more broadly on trade, economy, transport logistics, energy, the cultural and humanitarian areas," the statement said.

The pair also noted the dynamic development of bilateral relations in the spirit of friendship and strategic partnership.

Berdimuhamedow congratulated Tokayev on the successful election of the unicameral Kurultai, underscoring the event's historic significance for Kazakhstan. Tokayev thanked Berdimuhamedow for the congratulation and active involvement of Turkmen observers in the electoral process.

The election of the Kurultai, Kazakhstan's new unicameral parliament, was held on August 23.
