Uzbek president, U.S. Congress delegation discuss strategic partnership strengthening - presidential press service

TASHKENT. Aug 25 (Interfax) - Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has met with a delegation of the U.S. Congress House of Representatives, the presidential press service said on Tuesday.

The sides addressed the strengthening of the strategic partnership and the development of inter-parliamentary contacts, trade and economic cooperation, it said.

Bilateral trade has grown 20% this year, the press service said. A three-year economic cooperation program, which envisages the launch of major projects in energy, critical minerals, transport, agriculture, digital technologies and industry, is being implemented, it said.

The important role of the U.S. Congress in supporting Uzbekistan's reforms and promoting the constructive, mutually advantageous bilateral dialogue was noted at the meeting, it said.

Broadening inter-regional cooperation was a separate item on the agenda. The sides expressed their readiness to foster direct relations and joint projects with the states of Missouri, North Carolina, Texas and Hawaii, represented by the U.S. delegation members, the press service said.

The parties exchanged views on current items on the global and regional agendas and to organize mutual visits by business missions, it said.
