Belarus raises rate for railway freight by average of 9.5%

MINSK. Aug 13 (Interfax) - The Anti-monopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry of Belarus has adopted a resolution adjusting tariffs for freight transportation by railway within the country.

"The base tariff has increased by an average of 9.5% to partially offset carriers' costs of cross-subsidizing unprofitable shipments," according to the statement.

The final cost of transportation depends on the specific parameters of the shipment, including the type of cargo, distance, weight, and other factors. Belarusian Railways reserves the right to offer discounts based on economic feasibility, the ministry added.

As clarified, the tariff change only affects business entities and applies to relationships established after August 14, 2026.
