Russian Ice Hockey Federation to challenge IIHF decision to extend ban on Russian national teams at CAS - statement
MOSCOW. July 30 (Interfax) - The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) will appeal an International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) decision to bar Russian national teams from IIHF world championships at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), a statement published on the RIHF website on Thursday said.
"RIHF neither accepts nor understands the IIHF's short-sighted position that ignores International Olympic Committee recommendations and does not correspond to the idea of sports meant to unite people the world over," the statement said.
On Thursday, the IIHF announced its decision to bar the Russian team from its 2027 world and several other championships.
"The Council determined that Russia will not be allowed to participate in the below IIHF Championships during the 2026-2027 season due to ongoing safety, security and sporting integrity concerns," an IIHF statement said.
