Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan to double number of border crossing points

BISHKEK. July 30 (Interfax) - The number of border crossing points on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border will increase from 15 to 30, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said at a meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who has arrived in the country for a state visit.

"Treaties will be signed today that will fully solve the border issues and increase the number of crossing points on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border from 15 to 30," Japarov said.

The successful functioning of the crossing points will increase the transit and transport-logistical potential of the two countries, he said. Furthermore, a Kyrgyz consulate general will be established in Andizhan, which will create favorable conditions for citizens travel, trade development, cultural-humanitarian relations, tourism and the stable development of the border regions.

"We can say with confidence that Kyrgyz-Uzbek relations are going through one of the best periods of their history," Japarov said.
