Rosatom entity commissions second stage of Novolakskaya wind farm in Dagestan
MAKHACHKALA. July 22 (Interfax) - Rosatom Renewable Energy, Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation's wind energy division, commissioned the second stage of the Novolakskaya Wind Farm with capacity of 147.5 MW on Wednesday in Dagestan, an Interfax correspondent reported from the opening ceremony.
The wind farm's overall capacity has increased to 300 MW, including first stage capacity of 152.5 MW.
"This is the largest wind power facility in Russia, with a total production capacity [planned average annual output] of around 900 million kWh, which currently accounts for nearly one-sixth of Dagestan's total generation. This is a significant contribution in developing sustainable energy and the energy supply to consumers in our republic," acting head of the republic Fyodor Shchukin said at the opening ceremony.
Grigory Nazarov, CEO of Rosatom Renewable Energy, added that the company plans to build a wind farm in the Far East within the next two years.
"The next task for the next two years is the Far East, where there is a substantial electricity shortage. The Energy Ministry has set the goal of implementing a significant volume of renewable energy within a short timeframe. This is our main goal," Nazarov said.
Nazarov also said that construction of Rosatom's first foreign wind farm is planned to begin this year in Kyrgyzstan.
As reported, Rosatom Renewable Energy commissioned the first stage of the Novolakskaya Wind Farm in December 2025.
The power plant, construction on which began in November 2024, is located in the Kumtorkalinsky and Novolaksky districts of Dagestan, with planned average annual output of 879 million kWh. The site includes 120 wind turbines, each with capacity of 2.5 MW. Total investment in the project exceeds 50 billion rubles.
The wind farm will supply electricity to over 240,000 households.
Rosatom Renewable Energy, formerly NovaWind, is a division of Rosatom responsible for developing wind energy in Russia. The company's overall portfolio exceeds 2 GW of wind power capacity, including 1 GW of already commissioned wind farms.
Dagestan and NovaWind in September 2022 signed a five-year cooperation agreement on developing wind energy.
