Russian companies ready to implement hydro-, nuclear power projects in Burundi - FM
BUJUMBURA. July 10 (Interfax) - Russia and Burundi have discussed the hydropower and nuclear power projects Russian companies are ready to implement in the African country, Burundi is keen on small modular nuclear power stations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"We discussed a whole host of specific projects that Russian companies are ready to implement in Burundi, primarily, in the hydropower and nuclear power sectors. On nuclear power, work is already underway, staff are being trained. Our friends are keen on small modular nuclear power stations," Lavrov told a press conference at the end of his Burundi visit on Friday.
"Rosatom and its counterparts already signed a fundamental document that forms the basis for such interaction," he said.
African colleagues are also "increasingly interested in educational exchanges," Lavrov said. "We are ready, at our friends' request, to increase the number of stipends allocated to Burundi annually," he said.
