Tajikistan's electricity exports fall 8% in H1 2026
DUSHANBE. July 10 (Interfax) - Tajikistan exported 1.045 billion kWh of electricity in January-June 2026, down 8% year-on-year, the Tajik Energy and Water Resources Ministry said.
In value terms, supplies amounted to 292.2 million somoni.
Afghanistan remains the largest sales market for Tajik electricity, with 702.7 million kWh supplied to the country in H1 2026 for 283.9 million somoni. A total of 338.9 million kWh of electricity were exported to Uzbekistan.
Around 90% of export supplies occurred in April-June, when the influx of water into rivers increases and electricity generation at hydroelectric power plants rises.
Electricity production in Tajikistan amounted to 11.656 billion kWh in January-June 2026, down 1.3% YoY.
The largest amount of generation was provided by the national energy company Barqi Tojik at 8.89 billion kWh of electricity. OJSC Sangtudinskaya HPP-1 generated 1.49 billion kWh and OJSC Rogun HPP generated 675 million kWh. OJSC Pamir Energy produced 121.9 million kWh of electricity.
Around $1.6 billion has been raised as part of the implementation of state investment projects in Tajikistan's energy sector, the Tajik Energy Ministry said in a report on the results of its activities in H1 2026.
The funds are directed to the reconstruction of the Sarband, Kairakkum and Nurek hydroelectric power plants, the development of the CASA-1000 project, the reduction of electricity losses and the provision of electricity of rural areas.
Work also continues on developing the Central Asian Unified Energy System and modernizing electrical networks in the country's regions.
