China's BYD plans to create network of fast charging stations in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT. July 9 (Interfax) - BYD, a leading Chinese manufacturer of new energy vehicles, is discussing expanding electric vehicle production, increasing localization and developing charging infrastructure with the Uzbek authorities, the Uzbek Investments, Industry and Trade Ministry's press service said.

During negotiations, the head of the ministry, Laziz Kudratov, and BYD's managing director for Central Asia and the Caucasus, Cao Shuang, reviewed the results of the implementation of the project for producing electric vehicles in the Jizzakh region, which was launched in June 2024.

"During the meeting, plans were discussed to expand the enterprise's production capacity, increase the level of localization of components, and develop the plant's export potential," the press service said.

Developing production infrastructure, increasing export supplies, and creating a network of fast charging stations for electric vehicles in Uzbekistan were also considered, the ministry said.

As reported, the joint Uzbek-Chinese enterprise BYD Uzbekistan Factory in the Jizzakh region produced its first electric vehicle in the summer of 2024. The plant produces Chazor and Song Plus Champion, with a capacity of 50,000 electric vehicles per year.
