Reserves of National Bank of Moldova grow 2.4% in H1 2026

CHISINAU. July 8 (Interfax) - The international reserve assets of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) amounted to 5.22 billion euros at the end of June 2026 compared to 5.1 billion euros at the end of December 2025, according to materials from the regulator.

Reserves increased 2.4% (by 111.8 million euros) in January-June. They decreased 1% in Q2 after growing 3% in Q1. In June, they increased 0.5%.

According to the National Bank, the growth in the past month is mainly related to changes in the exchange rates of the currencies included in the reserves against the euro and income from reserve management, which compensated for the costs of servicing external public debt.

The National Bank's reserves decreased 3% in 2026 after growing 0.6% in 2024, rising 21.9% in 2023 and increasing 14.7% in 2022.

The National Bank of Moldova began keeping reserve statistics in euros due to the transition to the euro as the base currency from January 1, 2025.
