Kazakh Ministry of Energy sees no risk of fuel shortage despite disruptions in neighboring countries
ASTANA. July 7 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan is not at risk of a fuel shortage, Deputy Minister of Energy Kairat Tutkyshbayev said.
"We do not see any risk of a fuel shortage [...] We have introduced measures prohibiting drivers of both cargo and passenger vehicles from entering the country and refueling more than once. This applies to all countries bordering Kazakhstan. These measures help us maintain balance and fuel reserves," Tutkyshbaev said at a government briefing, asked about the impact of fuel shortages in neighboring countries, including Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
However, he said that there had been a sharp rise in fuel consumption in the West Kazakhstan, Aktobe and Pavlodar regions on the border with Russia.
"We are monitoring the situation. Firstly, we have begun to combat illegal fuel exports from our country," he said.
