Russia's level of technological independence in new materials, chemistry reaches 50.4% in 2025, imports' share in chemical product consumption at 33.4%

YEKATERINBURG. July 7 (Interfax) - Russia's level of technological independence in new materials and chemistry reached 50.35% in 2025, according to a presentation given at a board meeting of the Industry and Trade Ministry.

It is assumed that Russia will achieve 100% independence for products included in the New Materials and Chemistry national project by 2030.

Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov, speaking at the board meeting, said that the consolidation of all state and commercial demand for low-tonnage chemistry with the identification of cross-industry nomenclature is one of the most difficult tasks in implementing national projects for technological leadership.

"The most difficult thing is to consolidate orders for chemistry, especially low-tonnage. Although we have compiled preliminary balances of demand and consumption. There are also opportunities here for increasing productivity. We are talking here, first of all, about the introduction of microfluidic technologies that accelerate the transition from laboratory processes to industrial ones. Secondly, we need to conduct an analysis and summary of unified equipment and solutions that are used not only in chemistry, but also in pharmaceuticals, the food industry and biotechnologies. These industries still significantly depend on imported means of production, and we must replace them with domestic ones," he said.

According to the ministry's presentation, the share of imports of chemical products in consumption amounted to 33.44% in 2025 (the 2030 target is 30%), and output of new composite materials and products reached almost 1.03 billion rubles (the target is 25.94 billion rubles in 2030).
