Annual inflation in Georgia rises to 5.8% in June
TBILISI. July 3 (Interfax) - Annual inflation in Georgia rose to 5.8% in June from 5.7% in May, national statistics office Geostat said.
The figure was 5.9% in April and 4.3% in March.
Month-on-month inflation was 0.1% in June, 0.3% in May and 1.7% in April.
Core inflation was 3.5% in annual terms in June, up from 2.8% in March,
The June inflation was driven by 16.5% year-on-year growth in prices for transport services, 8.4% for hotels and restaurants and price growth for electricity and gas supply - 7.2%, food - 5.6% and alcoholic beverages - 5.4%, however there were price drops for services - 6.4% and clothing and footwear - 2.2%.
Rising inflation in the second quarter prompted the National Bank to hike its policy rate from 8% to 8.25% per annum in May. The regulator forecasts inflation this year will be around 5%.
Inflation in Georgia rose to 4% in 2025 from 1.9% in 2024 after falling to 0.4% in 2023 from 9.4% in 2022 and 13.9% in 2021.
