Azerbaijan's seaports cut cargo handling 9.2% to 5.18 mln tonnes in 5M
BAKU. June 29 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's seaports handled 5.18 million tonnes of cargo in January-May 2025, down 9.2% year-on-year, the State Statistics Committee said.
This included 4.35 million tonnes of international transit cargo, 84% of the total and 6.7% less year-on-year. Local cargo made up the remaining 16%.
The State Statistics Committee said that 60,200 tonnes of cargo remained at the ports as of June 1.
Azerbaijan's seaports handled 12.95 million tonnes of cargo in 2025, down 7.8% from 2024, including 10.24 million tonnes of international transit cargo, down 9.5%, accounting for 79.1% of all transshipment.
All of Azerbaijan's ports - in Baku, Astara, Lankaran and Sumgait - are located on the Caspian Sea.
The port of Baku has large oil terminals in Dubendi and Sangachal. A ferry terminal and a Ro-Ro terminal operate at the new Baku International Sea Port in the settlement of Alat.
