European Commission providing Ukraine with first tranche of 3.2 bln euros under 90-bln-euro loan

BRUSSELS. June 25 (Interfax) - Kiev will receive the first tranche of 3.2. billion euros in macro-financial assistance (MFA) under a new 90-billion-euro loan for 2026-2027, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdansk on Thursday.

The European Union and its member states have provided more than 200 billion euros in economic, financial and military support to Ukraine since February 2022, von der Leyen said.

"With the Ukraine Support Loan, we will provide a further 90 billion euros over the next two years. Today, we are transferring the first tranche under this loan, 3.2 billion euros in macro-financial assistance. And we will start paying the first money of the 6 billion euros for drone production in the coming days," she said.

Today's disbursement constitutes the first of three payments planned this year under macro-financial assistance, totaling 8.35 billion euros in 2026, the European Commission said in a statement. These payments are subject to Ukraine's satisfactory fulfilment of "the relevant reforms and conditions," it said.

"These are designed to help Ukraine mobilize domestic revenues, improve the sustainability and quality of public expenditure, and strengthen public financial management systems," the statement said.

Provided that the relevant conditions are fulfilled, a second instalment under the MFA operation of an indicative 3.7 billion euros is expected in September 2026, and a third instalment of an indicative 1.45 billion euros is expected before the end of the year.

EU officials have repeatedly said in recent months that disbursements under the 90-billion-euro loan for 2026-2027 would start before the end of Q2 2026.
