BRICS reps in India discuss energy shortages caused by Mideast situation - Shoigu

NEW DELHI. June 23 (Interfax) - The BRICS high representatives on national security, who met in New Delhi on Tuesday, discussed the energy shortages caused by the situation in the Middle East, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said.

"Overall, the meeting was traditionally fairly active. We discussed a host of issues concerning all spheres of security, i.e. non-traditional security risks and threats. Naturally, they also involve information security, cybersecurity, they involve epidemics, they involve many other things which have especially manifested recently, such as shortages of certain products, from fertilizers to foodstuffs," Shoigu told journalists at the end of his visit to India.

The attendees also discussed the situation in the Persian Gulf, he said. "This varies from country to country but there are, of course, shared topics and shared trends, this concerns energy resources, this concerns assessments as to when and how to make up for the shortage that has formed over this time," Shoigu said.
