Kazakhstan, Montenegro studying possibilities of linking TITR, Port of Bar

ASTANA. June 19 (Interfax) - Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic have discussed the possibilities of linking the capacities of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) and the Port of Bar on the Adriatic Sea, the Kazakh government's press service said.

"Given Montenegro's strategically advantageous location and its contribution to ensuring access to the Adriatic Sea, the meeting's participants noted broad opportunities for expanding trade and investment ties. In addition, they discussed the integration of TITR capacities with the Port of Bar, which will make it possible to create a new end-to-end multimodal corridor to Southern and Central Europe," the press service said.

Kazakhstan plays the role of a key transit bridge between Europe and Asia, the press service said. According to its information, traffic along the TITR grew more than 36% in 2025, amounting to 77,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).

During the talks, Kazakhstan's readiness to export agricultural products to Montenegro, including flour, wheat, oilseeds and deep-processed products, was noted.

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, connects China and Europe through the territory of Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

Bar is the largest commercial port in Montenegro.
