UK imposes sanctions against Rosgosstrakh, subsidiary banks of Yandex, Wildberries
MOSCOW. June 16 (Interfax) - The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions against four Russian credit institutions: Eurofinance Mosnarbank, Yandex Bank, Wildberries Bank and Vyatich Bank, according to a statement from the country's Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI).
In addition, two Russian insurers fell under British sanctions: Rosgosstrakh and Balance Insurance.
Wildberries Bank is a subsidiary bank of RWB Group (the combined company Wildberries & Russ). It is expected that as part of its strategic partnership with the marketplace, VTB will enter the capital of Wildberries Bank by the end of the summer, acquiring a 5% stake. The bank ranked 49th in terms of assets in the Interfax-100 ranking for Q1 2026.
The credit institution continues to operate normally, the press service of Wildberries Bank said. "The bank has always been focused on operating within Russia. For clients and partners of the bank and the marketplace, there will be no changes in service. Clients, both individuals and legal entities, can freely carry out all operations - money transfers, the use of cards, the receipt of interest income on deposits, obtaining loans, maintaining settlement accounts, and so on," the bank said.
The Russian-Venezuelan Eurofinance Mosnarbank is part of the RT-Finance holding of the Rostec state corporation. As of 2022, a stake of 50% minus 2 shares in the bank belonged to the Venezuelan development fund Fonden. The bank ranks 94th in terms of assets in the Interfax-100 ranking.
Yandex Bank ranked 31st in the Interfax-100 ranking in Q1 2026. Yandex acquired the bank in mid-July 2021 for 1.1 billion rubles. As a result of the transaction, the internet company received a banking license, which allows it to develop the fintech direction and launch products for users in this area.
Vyatich Bank was controlled by businessman Malik Gaisin, whose assets were seized in favor of the Russian state following a claim by the Prosecutor General's Office. At the end of Q1, the bank ranks 186th in the Interfax-100 ranking.
Rosgosstrakh is part of VTB Group. The group is currently negotiating the sale of the insurer, and the deal may be closed before the end of 2026.
