Moldova boosts GDP 0.4% in Q1

CHISINAU. June 15 (Interfax) - Moldova boosted GDP 0.4% year-on-year in comparable prices in January-March 2026, the National Bureau of Statistics said.

Growth in manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, energy, transport, and agriculture supported the positive economic momentum in the first quarter.

A decline in real estate, information and communications technology, and construction negatively affected GDP growth.

As previously reported, the country's authorities and international financial institutions have downgraded their respective forecasts for growth in Moldova's GDP this year partly owing to the Middle East situation.

Moldovan authorities in May lowered the forecast for GDP growth to 2% this year, and in April downgraded the forecast to 2.2% from 2.4%. The International Monetary Fund projects growth in Moldova's GDP to slow to 1.5% this year, and the World Bank expects growth of 1.9%.

The country's GDP rose 2.4% in 2025 after a symbolic rise of 0.1% in 2024.
