Georgia in talks to import LPG from Kazakhstan

TBILISI. June 11 (Interfax) - Georgian importers are in talks with Kazakh suppliers to import liquefied petroleum gas, the head of Georgia's Union of Petroleum Products Importers said Thursday.

"Georgia imports most of its LPG from Russia right now. But we are working to find alternative markets. Talks are underway with Kazakhstan, and LPG deliveries are expected to begin in the near future," Vakhtang Iobashvili told the publication bp.ge.

LPG shipments to Georgia are already rising, he said. In January-May 2026, imports exceeded 47,000 tonnes, up from 40,000 tonnes in the same period last year.

"Imports from Kazakhstan will help lower prices and make LPG more affordable to consumers," Iobashvili said.

The average retail price of LPG in Georgia stands at 1.45-1.6 lari (about $0.40-$0.50) per liter. Georgian media reported that pump prices rose 15-20% in March-April.

Russia currently accounts for nearly 100% of Georgia's LPG supply, with only small volumes coming from Azerbaijan.
