Active work in EAEU awaits Armenia - PM
YEREVAN. June 8 (Interfax) - Armenia will be actively working in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), alongside further diversification of markets for its exports, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"There is a clear political commitment to export Armenian agricultural products to the European Union duty-free. That will be our reality in the near future. Importantly, we have received access to the rose market in the Netherlands," Pashinyan said in the parliament on Monday.
"Active work in the EAEU awaits Armenia," he said.
"We will do the job. At the same time, we will be studying current processes. There is an emergency assistance agreement with the European Union for 50 million euros, which we will be using if we see unfounded hindrances to our exports," Pashinyan said.
"Our policy will stay focused on diversification of export markets," he said.
As reported, Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) banned imports of Armenian flowers on May 22. It imposed temporary restrictions on imports of Armenian fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, pepper, greens and strawberries on May 30, stone fruit (cherries, sweet cherries, apricots, plums, peaches, nectarines) and fresh grapes on June 2, and pome fruit, eggplants, potatoes and dried fruit on June 3. Besides, Rosselkhoznadzor said that Armenia must suspend certification of live fish and fish products prepared for exports to Russia on June 2.
Pashinyan has called Russia's ban on imports of certain types of Armenian products wrong and politicized.
The Armenian Central Elections Commission (CEC) said earlier on Monday, citing preliminary information, that Pashinyan's Civil Contract party gained 49.81% of the vote in the June 7 parliament election with 100% of the counted.
Samvel Karapetyan's Strong Armenia party gained 23.29% of the vote, and the Armenia bloc of former Armenian President ranked third with 9.94% of the vote. Gagik Tsarukyan's Prosperous Armenia party gained 4% of the vote.
