Uralchem to explore for raw materials for phosphate fertilizers in Murmansk Region

MURMANSK. June 8 (Interfax) - Uralchem plans to conduct geological exploration for raw materials for fertilizer production in the Murmansk Region, Murmansk Region Governor Andrei Chibis, Chairman of the State Council Commission on the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic, said at a regional government meeting on Monday.

"If geological exploration confirms the data we currently have, then we will have another mineral fertilizer producer, and Uralchem will construct a mining and processing plant and extract the resources," Chibis said.

The regional government clarified on social media that this refers to possibly constructing a phosphate fertilizer plant.

The Murmansk Region government and Uralchem United Chemical Company signed a cooperation agreement at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2026 on developing the Tulomsky subsoil site. Preliminary investment is approximately 20 billion rubles.

The Murmansk Region is the main center for phosphate mining in Russia, led by PhosAgro , EuroChem, and Acron .
