Two air leaks detected in ISS' Russian segment - Roscosmos
MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - The cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) have inspected a transfer chamber of the Zvezda module in the ISS' Russian segment and discovered two potential places of air leak, Roscosmos said in a statement on Friday.
"While boosting pressure in a compartment of the transfer chamber of the Zvezda module to the ISS pressure specialists from the main operational group, which operates the ISS Russian segment, registered a leak out of the chamber," the statement said.
An inspection of the chamber found two potential leakage places, it said.
"The first place was promptly sealed with a first layer of the Germetall-1 two-component sealant. The second place is in the cone section of the chamber," the statement said.
"Efforts are underway to prepare it for hermetic sealing," it said.
The air leaks detected in a transfer compartment of the Zvezda module pose no threat to the crew's safety, and the pressure on board is stable and being maintained at the intended level, Roscosmos said in a statement.
"The situation poses no threat to the safety of the crew or on-board systems. The pressure aboard the ISS is stable and being maintained at the intended level," the statement said.
Earlier on Friday, NASA spokesperson Bethany Stevens said the cosmonauts were conducting repairs in the Zvezda's transfer compartment to eliminate air leaks.
NASA had instructed four SpaceX Crew-12 crewmembers and NASA astronaut Chris Williams to move to the Dragon spaceship while repairs were ongoing. Stevens said.
