European Commission announces up to 641 mln euros in strategic investments for Moldova

BRUSSELS. June 5 (Interfax) - The European Commission on Thursday announced strategic investments of up to 641 million euros for Moldova.

"The investment projects announced today demonstrate that Moldova is not only strongly supported by the European Union, but is also a country that is contributing to Europe's competitiveness, security, digital transformation and industrial development," EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said.

At an EU-Moldova investment conference, Kos announced investment plans and draft initiatives amounting to 641 million euros "in coordination with international financial institutions, private sector partners and public stakeholders."

Brussels believes that these initiatives "will support strategic sectors, including energy, digital infrastructure, education and sustainable agriculture."

The European Commission said in a statement that 433 million euros is expected to be provided via international financial institutions "through a combination of EU grants, guarantees and loans."

Eight projects representing up to 208 million euros in planned investments have been selected under the Call for Expressions of Interest for private investments, it said.
