Russia, India committed to strengthening naval cooperation - Russian Maritime Board

MOSCOW. June 1 (Interfax) - Russian presidential aide and Maritime Board Chairman Nikolai Patrushev has had talks with Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in Moscow, the press service for the Maritime Board said on Saturday.

"Moscow and New Delhi reiterated their commitment to the strengthening of naval cooperation," the press service said.

The parties discussed proposals in the implementation of joint shipbuilding and ship repair projects and prospects of establishing interaction between scientific institutions, the press service said.

"Development prospects of international transport routes in order to increase cargo turnover between Russia and India were addressed," it said.

Security in the world's oceans and interaction within BRICS in the maritime sector were discussed during the meeting, it said.

"Issues dealing with training the engineering and technical personnel for shipbuilding and specialists for India's merchant fleet at specialized Russian higher educational establishments were mentioned," it said.

On November 17, 2025, Patrushev invited the Indian side at the Russian-Indian consultations in New Delhi to consider establishing shipbuilding and ship repair clusters in Mumbai or Chennai involving Russia.
