Armenia to keep working in EAEU for as long as it can - PM

YEREVAN. June 1 (Interfax) - Armenia will keep working in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) until it has to choose between the EAEU and the European Union, and a referendum will be held at that point, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

"We are working and will keep working in the EAEU until a choice between the EAEU and the EU becomes unavoidable. Naturally, the people of Armenia should decide at a referendum," Pashinyan said in live video in his social media account.

The time of referendum is an essential issue, he said.

"It would be illogical to hold a referendum until Armenia formally applies for EU membership or is close to become a candidate state. Because there are neither arguments nor balance sheet so that we could offer the people to choose which path to follow. It is wrong and unreasonable to put a theoretical choice to a referendum," Pashinyan said.

"Hence, we will keep working in the EAEU calmly, without arguing and being stressed. I have no doubt that we have a potential in this area, and we are using it," he said.
